Abstract

I'm sure by now you are all aware that the Prime Minister is abolishing NHS England, stating it will bring management of the NHS ‘back into democratic control’.

He stated the move would free up money for doctors, nurses and frontline services, and cut red tape to help speed up improvements in the health service, amid frustrations about the pace of change.

Its too early to surmise how and even if this will negatively or positively impact general practice, and ultimately GPNs. Therefore, its business as usual.

On that note, we need to secure the role of GPNs. One solution is increasing capacity to accommodate student nurses, to grow our own GPN pipelines.

In 2024, the NMC commissioned independent research to identify what contributes to effective practice learning across the UK and other countries. It investigated how NMC requirements are being implemented; and the opportunities and challenges in providing optimal practice learning placements for the next generation of nurses and nursing associates.
