Iam sure you were all horrified to read the NMC independent report but not surprised, as depressingly it appears to mirror the culture that seems to be increasingly common across so many institutions, including the NHS. https://www.nmc.org.uk/globalassets/sitedocuments/independent-reviews/2024/nmc-independent-culture-review-july-2024.pdf
I am sure many of you have your own stories, if your happy to share, please get in touch.
We welcome Wes Streeting, the new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, making this statement: ‘It's clear to me the CQC is not fit for purpose’ ‘When I joined the department, it was already clear that the NHS was broken and the social care system in crisis,’ he said. ‘But I have been stunned by the extent of the failings of the institution that is supposed to identify and act on failings.
Despite large amounts of additional funding to both organisations, the outcomes are unacceptable. Just think with that funding what could we, primary care GPNs, have implemented. I'm sure it would include sustainable, transferable workforce initiatives, to retain, train, recruit, respect, resilience, and recruitment.
Wes Streeting, we are here and ready to help.
I couldn't write this editorial without sharing highlights from the London GPN Celebration Event that took place on the 12 July, in the heart of Regents Park in Regents Park University. It was a day of learning, from experts in their field, time to meet up with old friends and make new friends, singing and dancing and ultimately celebrating the dedication and passion of GPNs.
And a standing ovation for some of our London BME GPNs receiving their certificates for completion of the Equity Now programme from Jane Clegg, London CNO.
But don't take my word for it, take a look for yourself: https://www.selwdh.co.uk/news/news-celebrating-excellence-in-general-practice-nursing
As always, look after yourselves, and others; be kind; be your best selves.
Look forward to hearing from you.
